Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham (MITHN) was set up in the early 1980s to deliver a programme of services to people with mental health needs, living in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Since 2006, the charity has also supported clients from the neighbouring borough of Newham, due to a gap in services. MITHN is affiliated to Mind (the National Association for Mental Health) and is an active participant in the network of local Mind associations in London.
In 2012 we delivered services to over 4000 individuals across both boroughs. We provide a range of community-based services, which encourage independence, enabling people to be active participants in the wider community. Our services, provided by 39 staff, operate during normal and unsocial hours and include advocacy, welfare rights, health promotion, counselling; and a range of activities promoting recovery. Our 50 volunteers, many of whom are service users are involved in many ways.
In the last 3 years we were able to attract funding to support the development of new projects aimed at raising awareness of mental health, improving access to services and reduce stigma and discrimination amongst our communities.
We offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of the local community and are committed to continually reviewing services and responding to changes in collaboration with our service users and partners.
