Mental Health Support Service
We offer casework and group work for people with mental health issues and work closely with people to enable them to live independently in the community and to reach their full potential.
Aims of the Service
- Provide individuals with one to one and/or group support based on clearly identified aims and outcomes for each service user.
- Use the Recovery Star Tool to support recovery and encourage service users to remain well in the community
- Facilitating users’ access to relevant specialist services in the community to prevent social exclusion
- Provide information to users regarding mental health services and resources, treatment options and aftercare, complimentary to that which statutory services are bound to provide.
- Provide information to users on healthy living style, e.g., healthy diet, exercises, stop smoking
- Support users to gain access to other mental health and mainstream services e.g. educational, vocational or employment training or leisure etc.
- Introduce clients to Talking Therapies
- Emphasis on moving towards confidence building and training programmes. Training process to involve providing information to users, a range of training accessed based on needs and work plans.
- Promote peer support amongst service users
- Bridging the gap between Health Professionals and Community Carers
- Promote cultural awareness amongst health care professionals and work in partnership to encourage social inclusion for BME service users, e.g., African Caribbean, Bengali and Somali service users with long term enduring mental health problems
Package of Care
- Package of care to service users with personal budget: include up to 26 sessions (up to 1.5hrs) of 1:1 and a weekly group session.
- Provide a case management support programme using Recovery Star approach to meet the mental health needs of the service user and to promote mental & physical health well-being.
- We work closely with care manager at CMHT and accompany service users to attend CPA reviews meetings.
- One-to-one support with bilingual staff
- Advice and information on mental health issues
- Signposting and referral to other support services
- Access to Open House Café and Drop-in Service
We can take referrals from both voluntary and statutory organizations, individuals, families and carers. Please make sure you have the consent of the person you are referring to our service.

Referral process
The service provider shall operate an open referral system. Referrals may originate from the following:
- Community Mental Health Teams
- Inpatient Services – ELNHSFT
- Mental health service providers
- Self (mental health service user)
- Primary health care services
- Community and family
Khat Project
Mashruuca Qaadka ujeedadiisu waa inuu ka caawiyo dadka dhibaatada ku qaba xad-dhaaf u isticmaalida Qaadka, sidii ay uga bixi lahaayeen wareegaas adag.
The overall aim of this project is to raise awareness of problematic Khat use within the Somali community as well as working with people who have Khat misuse problems

- Using The 12 Step Khat Treatment Programme

- Dual Diagnosis Training
- Khat Awareness Training for staff from Statutory sector and Voluntary sector
- Regular workshops for the community to highlight of khat use/misuse

Café and Drop in Service
We offer a safe and supportive space to enjoy, relax and socialise, where you can access support and assistance as well as enjoy the company of others.

You are welcome to come on the drop-in days and meet with the staff. We are happy for you to come and look around, or come with your worker to see what we have to offer.
Training and Development
We offer support to people with mental health needs living in Tower Hamlets who would like to access education (short or long term), volunteering and/or employment opportunities.
We work in partnership with other organizations to provide:
- Regular short courses, such as Food handling, Health & Safety, First Aid, Customer Services, Computing, Communication skills.
- Other courses, such as Challenging discrimination, ESOL, Basic Skills, Community Interpreting.
- Individual support for education, volunteering and employment opportunities.

In Work Support
In Work Support is a free and confidential Service. It is aimed at anyone employed, self-employed or starting employment that is experiencing emotional issues or mental health problems affecting their work.
The Advisor can provide ongoing emotional and practical support over the telephone and in person to ensure the client is fully supported and able to do their role to the best of their ability.
The Advisor can assist with the following:
- Pinpointing the issues;
- Discussing options and the different strategies to implement them;
- Confidence building and coping strategies;
- Communication techniques;
- Working with the client to make adjustments to working hours or tasks;
- Planning and organising a safe and gradual return to work;
- Implementing reasonable adjustments or actions;
- Discussion between employer and employee; and
- Signposting to additional services if required e.g. counseling.
