Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham values contributions from the public. Without your time, support and expertise we would not be able to offer our wide range of services and activities to as many service users as we do. You can make a difference by getting involved in a variety of ways - as a volunteer, Board trustee or by making a donation. You can also work for Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham; from time to time we have a variety of vacancies that may be of interest to you.
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
We welcome applications from potential volunteers for a variety of rewarding and interesting roles. Applications can be from people who wish to gain experience and skills to work in the mental health field or from people who may only have a few hours to spare each week. We are keen to encourage anyone with direct experience of mental health or caring for someone suffering with mental health distress to volunteer.
Counselling Service
Our counselling service uses volunteers to deliver this over-subscribed service. The counselling team is a diverse one in terms of age, gender, race religion and sexual orientation. Because of this diversity we are also able to offer counselling in different languages. To be considered for a volunteer placement you must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of a counselling/psychotherapy training to Diploma/MA level.
Support Services
Volunteers are required for our café and social club which takes place on Mondays and Thursdays, 10.00am – 3.-00pm. The social club provides a safe and supportive environment for service users to relax, socialise and take part in various activities, for example, music and indoor health activities (Wii-fit). Volunteers assist by facilitating these activities by offering individual support to service users. Volunteers wishing to offer practical support are able to support the running of the kitchen and café.
Executive Committee
We are always looking to recruit trustees to our Executive Committee with skills in the following areas: Experience/understanding of mental health needs; Project development; Human Resources; Finance: Fundraising: Legal matters; Equal opportunities/diversity; Organisational matters; Public Relations/media; Corporate/Business sector; Voluntary sector; Information technology; Operations of central and local government.
We would like to increase representation on the Committee from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, including the Bengali and Somali communities which are not represented on the Committee.

If you are interested in any of the above volunteering opportunities please email info@mithn.org.uk or telephone 020 7510 1081
